It is an immense pleasure to stand before you today as the convocation speaker for this momentous occasion. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to Daffodil International University (DIU) for inviting me to be part of this celebration of academic excellence, innovation, and inspiration.

As someone who has dedicated much of my life to education and public service, I deeply admire institutions that dream boldly and act decisively to shape a brighter future. DIU is one such institution-a beacon of hope and a model for universities, not only in Bangladesh but across the region. Since its establishment in 2002, DIU has embarked on an extraordinary journey of growth and transformation.

Through internationalization, as seen with its branch campus in the UAE, DIU has showcased its commitment to providing a world-class education to a diverse student community. DIU’s rising global reputation, including its top rankings in Bangladesh by Times Higher Education and World University Rankings, is a testament to its relentless pursuit of excellence. DIU has also achieved a position in the prestigious 800–1000 bracket globally. Its number 1 position in sustainability in Bangladesh, as recognized by QS ranking, and its second position in Bangladesh in SPCUS-indexed quality research and publications; along with its top-tier contributions to quality education under SDG4. These accolades highlight not only academic success but also DIU’s profound contributions to sustainability, research, quality education, and societal impact.

DIU’s forward-thinking approach is evident in initiatives like the Blended Learning Centre, Blockchain-Powered Digital Certificate Systems, and the transformative “One Student, One Laptop” program that has benefited 65,000 students. This is not merely education; it is empowerment, bridging divides, and fostering innovation. Projects like converting a dead drain into a vibrant lake and building the Daffodil Smart City, underline the University’s commitment to entrepreneurship, environmental stewardship, and community development. Through cutting-edge facilities and visionary programs, it empowers students to dream big and embark on entrepreneurial journeys. Entrepreneurship is not just about starting businesses-it is a mindset. It’s about identifying problems and developing creative solutions, no matter the field.

Bangladesh, too, stands as a shining example of resilience and progress. The nation’s remarkable strides in ICT, and youth empowerment are paving the way for sustainable development and innovation. Lebanon and Bangladesh share a legacy of resilience and a deep-rooted appreciation for education and culture-values that unite our nations and strengthen the bonds between us.

To the Graduating Class of 2025,

Today marks a defining milestone in your lives. Your years at DIU have equipped you with more than just knowledge; they have instilled values of integrity, creativity, and a passion for excellence. These qualities will serve as your compass as you navigate the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. In a world that is more interconnected than ever before, the skills you have honed-critical thinking, problem-solving, and ethical leadership-position you to address global challenges on a transformative scale. Global challenges like climate change, social inequality, and technological disruption that demand solutions that transcend borders.

Speech of the Convocation Speaker Professor Dr. Hassan Diab Former Honorable Prime Minister, Lebanon xi DAFFODIL INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY DAFFODIL INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY Let me reveal a personal reflection to illustrate the power of resilience and determination by sharing with you two stories that have changed my life and shaped the person standing before you. The first story begins with losing my father at the tender age of 10 and faced the Lebanese civil war at the age of 16. As a result, I found myself alone in the UK at the age of 17, making life-transforming decisions on my own. While many of my peers faltered, I persevered, guided by an unwavering focus on my goal to succeed. Life presents us with challenges to test our limits and requires us to make difficult choices. My message to you is to always challenge yourself, strive for continuous improvement, and make wise choices with grit and patience to implement them.

The second story takes us to a time when I assumed the position of Minister of Education & Higher Education in Lebanon in June 2011. Heading the largest ministry in Lebanon, with a tremendous responsibility for over 1.3 million students and impacting almost every household in the country, I faced numerous challenges. During that period, I tragically lost my dear mother after a six-month coma, just days before my appointment as minister. Despite the immense personal loss, I forged ahead, confronting the challenges that come with being a technocrat minister in a politically charged government. However, this experience tested my persistence in doing what is right for my country and its people. It allowed me to achieve remarkable advancements for the greater good of our nation. I led reforms over a period of two and a half years that elevated our education system to global recognition despite immense personal and political challenges. By the end of 2013, Lebanese higher education was ranked out of 144 countries: 13th in the quality of Schools of Business, 10th in the quality of higher education, and 4th in the quality of teaching math and science; surpassed only by Singapore, Finland, and Belgium. These experiences taught me that life’s trials are not barriers but stepping stones to growth. Graduates, you too will face challenges —embrace them, and let them shape you into leaders of tomorrow.

Transforming challenges into opportunities requires a shift in mindset and a proactive approach. Rather than seeing challenges as roadblocks, view them as potential avenues for growth and development. Embrace the opportunity to learn valuable lessons and gain new insights from each challenge you encounter. Tap into your creativity and innovation to find unique solutions and approaches. Build resilience by developing coping strategies and adapting to new circumstances. Expand your skills and knowledge by actively seeking ways to acquire new expertise. Foster personal growth by pushing your boundaries and discovering hidden strengths. Connect with others for support and collaboration. Practice gratitude to maintain a positive outlook. By adopting these strategies, you can transform challenges into stepping stones towards personal and professional success.

Education is not merely about career development; it is a catalyst for societal transformation. It nurtures the capacity to think critically, to appreciate diversity, and to embrace others with empathy. It creates global citizens who possess both the depth of expertise in their fields and the breadth of soft skills to communicate, negotiate, and lead effectively. Graduates of 2025, this is your moment to shine. As you leave the halls of DIU, remember that true success lies not in personal achievements alone but in the positive impact you create for others. 3. From an entrepreneurial university to a transformative hub shaping industries and societies.

The result of this evolution is evident. When I travel the world, I meet our alumni leading global companies, breaking barriers, and making impactful contributions. Their presence across continents fills me with immense pride. Their ability to balance professional success with a commitment to giving back to society is a true testament to our shared vision.

Our state-of-the-art facilities, including 160 advanced labs, a dedicated sports zone, the Innovation and Incubation Center, Knowledgevale, Media Lab, and Gymnasium, are complemented by transformative programs such as Micro-Credential Programs, Employability 360 Degrees, and Art of Living. These initiatives are carefully designed to equip our students with the skills, adaptability, and mindset required to excel in the ever-evolving demands of tomorrow.

Honorable Chairman of the 12th Convocation of Daffodil International University and Honorable Advisor, Ministry of Primary and Mass Education, Distinguished Convocation Speaker, Special Guests, dignitaries, graduating students, parents, guardians, colleagues, ladies and gentlemen, As-SalamoAlaiqum and a very good morning to you all.

We begin with an acknowledgment of the supreme sacrifice of the martyrs, who laid their lives to protect our mother tongue, Bangla, in 1952. Let me remember the countless freedom fighters, who made the ultimate sacrifice for Independence of Bangladesh in 1971. We pay homage to the large number of brave individuals who sacrificed their lives and those who lost their eyesight and suffered serious injuries during the recent Student–People Movement for anti-discrimination and democracy, also known as the July Revolution of 2024.

Dear Graduating Students,

It is a joy for us to celebrate your accomplishments. I am proud to acknowledge that your diligence and hard work have paid off in success. During the last few years, you have gone through the twists, turns and turmoil of courseworks, class tests, assignments, projects, presentations, periodical and final examinations, to this glorious moment of graduation ceremony today. Congratulations! Many congratulations Indeed!

You will never forget the difficult days of Covid-19 during your days at the university. Now you are members of an elite group of university students, who successfully navigated through uncertainty, and continued working hard to accomplish all that was required of you. It is a time of passing to the next stage of life, full of hope and possibility. Now is the time to realize what university education is for, and why universities are such important institutions.

A nation's human resources are its most important reserve. The knowledge, skills, and attitude are indispensable for socio-economic development and national wellbeing. The university made all efforts to provide faculty - acclaimed nationally and internationally, appropriate facilities, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities, international exchange programs, and many more.

We believe that you will be leaders, team builders and entrepreneurs. Your time at DIU has helped you hone these skills and abilities. You have a chance to make history now. Your education is not over yet. Your graduation marks a fresh start. You still have a lot to learn and accomplish. After all, learning is self-learning and life-long learning.

I would like to thank everyone who has helped you along the way in your university journey. We are also appreciative of the leadership of this great seat of learning, specially, the Board of Trustees of the university and its visionary Chairman, Dr. Md. Sabur Khan, for inspiration and wisdom. We do appreciate the support of your parents, your guardians, faculty members, staff, counselors, coaches, and friends. All these people supported you in getting to where you are today. We are indebted to them.

You will be the alumni of DIU, a group of about 50,000 people, who have made significant contributions to the growth of the nation. They also have made their marks in professions and positions in different countries of the world. You will represent the university as a member of this alumni. Our reputation will be preserved by your success. Your DIU family will always be by your side, no matter what and where you are.

As we gather to celebrate this momentous occasion, I would like to highlight the few remarkable achievements of DIU, particularly in international rankings. DIU is ranked 1st in Bangladesh (in the range 801-1000 globally) by Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2025 and the university is 1st private university in Bangladesh in QS Sustainability Rankings 2025. DIU is ranked 1st in Bangladesh (301- 400 in the global range) by THE Impact Rankings 2024. DIU is ranked 1st among private universities and 2nd among all universities in Bangladesh for quality research publications announced by Scopus-indexed publications 2024. The university is ranked 1st Sustainable University in Bangladesh (75th in Asia) by UI Greenmetric World University Rankings 2024. This accolade reflects our unwavering commitment to academic excellence, quality research, modern technologies like artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, data science, 4IR, etc, and making a significant social impact.

Our institutional priorities focus on fostering entrepreneurship, driving innovation, strengthening internationalization, building robust collaborations with industries and practicing microcredentials ensuring that our graduates are equipped to thrive in an ever-evolving world.

Mashoor Saad Karim ID: 193-43-422 Valedictorian Speech My name is Mashoor Saad Karim and it is an honor for me to stand up here today and represent all of you. Congratulations to the graduate class of 2024!

Standing here right now, more than I feel proud, I feel grateful. I am grateful to everyone who has contributed to this journey. I am grateful to all the parents who have made countless sacrifices to raise us and bring us to this point. We would not be here without your prayers.

I am grateful to our teachers. You have consistently guided us these past four years. You did not just teach us; you ignited curiosity. You have inspired us to achieve greatness, to do more, and to be better people.

I am grateful to my friends who have shared this journey with me. For supporting each other through the good times and bad times. Without you, the lines in front of the lift would be intolerable, and the walk to the tongs would not be worth it. Without you, I wouldn't have grown as much as a person.

I am grateful to our Chairman for having the vision, the management, and the administrative body for creating this platform where we could excel. It is through our combined effort, we make this university a great institute. Daffodil is taking significant steps to integrate AI into education. We have our own recently launched AI app 'English Mate'. We here at Daffodil International University are getting equipped with industry skills through micro credential courses. Daffodil is different from any other private university or any university for that matter. We showed immense courage in the July revolution, and produced 1.2 metric ton seedlings to help the flood-affected farmers. Internationally, our students won the NASA Space Apps Challenge. The students of my university inspire me to achieve greatness and to do great things with my life.

For the next chapters of our lives, I want to wish you all the best of luck. Be leaders and doers when you go out in the real world. Take initiatives, be the first one to take a step even when no one does. And if the future seems uncertain, have hope, and remember, 'greatness', is always within our grasp.
